Working from Home – Here to Stay

The COVID-19 pandemic has made clear the benefits and efficiencies of working from home, although it has also presented a new set of challenges around ensuring everyone has a safe and productive environment to work from whilst at home.

Did You Know?

According to a survey conducted by GitLab 84% of respondents stated they could accomplish their work remotely and more than half believed there were significant benefits around productivity and efficiencies improvements when working from home. According to McCrindle 80% of those surveyed stated they were more likely to stay longer with an existing employer should they provide the option of working from home.

Although the benefits of working remotely clearly outweigh the negatives, employers still have the obligation to ensure the health and safety of their workers is maintained whilst working from home as per the Work Health & Safety Act 2011.

There have been examples in the past such as Hargreaves v Telstra Corporation Limited [2011], where a worker sustained injuries falling down her stairs at home, the tribunal determined the worker was entitled to a claim compensation for her injuries, as the injuries were directly related to her employment.

How Seera Can Assist

It is essential that we all feel safe and remain productive whilst working from home, whilst checklists alone can be a great tool to engage and gather feedback from employees regarding their working from home environment, managing surveys and checklists using paper based or document processes can be very cumbersome for both the employer and employees.

Seera has recognised these challenges and has developed a customisable surveying tool as a mechanism for employers to ensure their employees are safe whilst working from home.

Seera has also developed a comprehensive ‘Working from Home Checklist’ for both employers and employees, click here to download your free copy.
